Expansion (also called control) joints are placed in the curb at installation to control cracking. The curbing can be broken clean at these joints by applying leverage. Once the section is free, simply remove it, complete your repairs, and place the section of concrete edging into its original position.

You will need to remove existing edging from your landscaping. The installer will cut a 9" or 12" wide strip (depending on curb design) of sod away and prepare the ground.
